For
the reporting period between Aug. 13 – Sept. 9, a total of 526 crimes
were reported in Pacific Division including two homicides.
Senior
Lead Officer Pete Llanes reported on the following:
• a spate of burglaries took place on Weir and Bray Streets during this
reporting period.
• several commercial establishments on Venice Blvd. between Inglewood
and Centinella were victimized buy burglars smashing their storefront glass,
then breaking into the cash register. LAPD send an advisory to businesses in
this area, urging them to place all cash in the safe at closing and to leave
the register drawer open open, thus showing the burglars that the cupboard is
bare.
• several street robberies took place in the late night/early morning
hours near Mesmer and Jefferson. One of these incidents involved a car that
had earlier been carjacked near the intersection of Centinella and Venice.
• a new clique in the Mar Vista Gardens, made up of kids in their early
teens, has been trying to form a new gang. Pacific Division is keeping an eye
on this situation. The Division has recently received a federal grant to pay
for overtime and will be directing this new resource into establishing an additional
presence inside the Gardens.
• problems along the bike path (robberies, harassment) have abated somewhat
with the start of the new school year. Several arrests have been made but the
area between Sawtelle and Inglewood remains an issue.
• parking issues: Are campers, vans and recreation vehicles clogging the
parking on your street? Newly established guidelines make it easier for LAPD
to tow nuisance vehicles that are being used as residences or are simply being
stored on the street for lengthy periods of time.

Officer Llanes reported on an LAPD-sponsored Town Meeting to be held on Monday,
