14A49 COMMUNITY BASED POLICING MEETING, OCTOBER 13, 2004
The monthly meeting was conducted by Officer Beacham. Since the Will Call Room was unavailable the meeting was held on the tarp covered deck off of the break room.
Officer Beacham was recently honored as Officer of the Year for his work on Domestic Violence. Captain Incantra from Internal Affairs replaced Captain Hellman who moved to West Los Angeles. And, Captain Williams will be on leave for a month or so due to illness.
It was announced that seven captains were promoted. Lieutenants will be next followed by sergeants. It is just a matter of time before Officer Beacham will be promoted to sergeant and leave Pacific Division.
Men driving in the area near Marshall Street and Inglewood Blvd., where a party was being held, got out of their car and proceeded to shoot several rounds into a house with what appeared to be 9MM AK47’s wounding four people. All of those hurt will survive. Police are confident arrests will be eminent.
A shooting took place at Berryman and Braddock. The victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
There was a brief discussion of Proposition A, the ballot measure that would raise the current sales tax by ½%. The additional revenue would be spent on police and fire, revamping of the 911 and 877 ASK LAPD systems, and enhancement of pensions, retirement, and administration.
There were a few concerns from meeting attendees.
A resident of Marcastle complained again of six white vans parked all day from early morning to early evening on her street and commented her home was recently burglarized. Officer Beacham explained that if the vans are parked legally and not violating the 72 hour parking limit there is nothing the police can do. There is also a problem of day care vehicles parking on that street as well.
Another attendee reported a produce truck parked within a block of the school between 2:30 and 3:00 p.m. Officer Beacham said it is against the law and will look into it.
An attendee called the station to report a loud party and received an unsatisfactory response from the front desk. Officer Beacham advised the meeting attendees not to call the Pacific Division front desk. The front desk is not equipped to handle phone calls as they are overwhelmed with walk-ins. For non-emergency matters call 877-ASK LAPD. For emergencies call 911.
At 7:00 p.m. on October 31st there will be a Halloween Party with a haunted house in the LAPD Pacific Division parking lot.
Respectfully submitted,
