Del Rey dogs have barked and howled long and loud for a place where they can run off-leash. It looks like the pups will soon have their wish granted.
Ground will break on August 5 for the new Glen Alla Dog Park. The off-leash dog park will repurpose a portion of the existing park and will fence off two areas to separate smaller dogs from larger ones. Both areas will feature benches, dog hydrating stations, trees, shade structures, permeable pavement and dog waste dispensers. There will also be improvements made to the children’s playground area of the park.
Funding for the dog park was secured in November 2018 and construction was expected to begin soon after, however environmental and coastal commission approval process caused delays.
It will be worth the wait. Councilman Mike Bonin notes that the dog park will be a testament to what can happen when neighbors work together to create the community they want for their families and for future generations. Paws up to that.
